DAY 1: LIMA

Upon your arrival to the airport, our staff will assist you with information of the city and drive you to the selected hotel. You will have the afternoon free to rest or explore the city. Overnight in Lima.

DAY 2: LIMA

We will drive around the main streets and avenues until we get to the historical centre. Walking around the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) we will admire the façade of the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Borough Council building and many more. 

Then, a visit Casa de Aliaga, a lovely colonial mansion that is also the oldest household of the Americas to be owned by the same family, 17 generations have lived here so far. Following our tour through colonial Lima, we will go to Santo Domingo’s Convent, a jewel of religious architecture that keeps relics of Peruvian saints and a notorious art work collection. Leaving the historical centre we will seek for Lima’s modern and vibrant districts. In San Isidro, current financial centre of the capital, we will have a panoramic view of the Huaca Huallamarca, an ancient pre-Incan shrine built with adobe blocks. Continuing to Miraflores, we will enjoy a great view of the Pacific Ocean. We will finish our tour with a visit to the bohemian neighbourhood. Here, we will stop to walk around admiring the republican houses, cross the famous “Puente de los Suspiros” (Bridge of Sighs) inspiration for songs and poems and enjoy beautiful views. You will have the rest of the day free. Overnight in Lima.

DAY 3: LIMA / AREQUIPA

At scheduled time we will head for the airport to take the flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival to the “white city” we will assist you and transfer you to the selected hotel. In the afternoon we will begin our city tour, admiring the beautiful Plaza de Armas (Main Square) and then, the celebrated Santa Catalina’s Convent. This beautiful convent was founded in 1580 and is similar to a small colonial village, with small houses built for the nuns and their maids, cloisters, plazas, narrow streets, kitchens, laundry and more. We will continue with a visit to the Compañía de Jesús Church, a Jesuit church that is a jewel of baroque art and home to magnificent paintings. The ancient vestry is particularly beautiful with its cupola and walls covered in murals representing the jungle. Continuing with our journey we will go to Mirador del Carmen, a lookout at only 10 minutes from the centre of the city. From here we will have a great view of the Misti, the stunning volcano that seems to be guarding the city and the Chili Valley. Then, we will head for the residential district of Yanahuara to walk around the narrow stone-paved streets and the great houses built with sillar (petrified volcanic ash). The beautiful church from 1750 and the picturesque plaza with its sillar lookout are the perfect finale for today’s excursion. You will have the rest of the day free. Overnight in Arequipa.

DAY 4: AREQUIPA / COLCA VALLEY

Early in the morning we will head for the Colca Valley, we will drive surrounded by volcanoes and a pretty countryside. Our first stop will be at Pampa Cañahuas, within the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, the protected habitat of the local vicuñas. Then, we will border the crater of Chucura´s volcano to get to Mirador de los Andes, a lookout in Patapampa at 4,900 m. On our way to the town of Chivay we will find beautiful pre-Hispanic terraces still cultivated by native Collaguas. After lunch we will drive you to the selected hotel. You will be able to enjoy a free afternoon to rest or walk around the hotel. Overnight in Colca.

DAY 5: VALLE DEL COLCA / PUNO

In the morning we will visit the emblematic “Condors’ Cross”, a privileged observation point from where we will see these huge and majestic Andean birds. From here, we will get a new perspective of the Colca Canyon and its 3,000 metres deep with breath-taking panoramic views. After lunch we will start an impressive six hour road trip across the Andean landscape, once again surrounded by majestic volcanoes and altitude resistant cacti. We will pass Patapampa and the Chucura volcano towards Lagunillas, at 4,171 m. to watch different species of Andean and migratory birds. We will finish the route arriving at Puno, built on the shore of Lake Titicaca. Overnight in Puno.

DAY 6: PUNO / UROS / TAQUILE

Today we will enjoy an extraordinary time on the highest navigable lake of the world, Lake Titicaca. Our first stop will be at the floating islands of the Uros. This community, also called “the Lake Town”, is known for building these islands by overlapping totora reeds, the islands are used for housing and commerce. We will continue our journey to Taquile Island to share a moment with its friendly community. The people of Taquile keep alive the old traditions, customs and colourful outfits. Taquile’s islanders are talented knitters with a technique that has been passed on for generations to create gorgeous hand crafted garments. After a nice lunch in a local restaurant we will go back to Puno. Overnight in Puno.

DAY 7: PUNO / CUSCO

Very early in the morning we will leave behind Puno city on board of a comfortable vehicle and head for Cusco. Along the eight hours of journey we will enjoy beautiful Andean views. On route we will make a brief stop to visit the Pucará village, known for the making of the “Toritos de Pucará” (Pucara´s little bulls). For the Andean people the toritos have a sort of magical-religious value as a symbol of richness, happiness, fertility, safety and more. Following our journey we will arrive to Raqchi, where we will find remains of Incan buildings. The last stop of our trip before Cusco will be Andahuaylillas, a charming village with one of the most singular churches of the Andes, known as the “Sistine Chapel” due to the beautiful murals that decorate the interior. We will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in a local restaurant. Upon our arrival to Cusco we will drive you to the selected hotel. Cusco. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 8: CUSCO CITY

We will start our day with and excursion that will show us the best view of the city from the natural lookout of Pukamoqo (Red Hill). We will continue to Sacsayhuaman, an impressive Incan fortress with monoliths of many metres high, which will teach us a lesson about some of the Incan amazing building techniques. Our tour will take us back to the city for a visit to San Pedro’s market, the main marketplace of the area. Flooded with aromas and colours this place is ready to teach us about the regional produce while we spend some time like a local resident. Nearby we will find Qorikancha, also known as the Temple of Gold, one of the main religious centres of the Incas; on top of its foundations the Spaniards built the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo. We will finish the tour walking around the Plaza de Armas (Main Square) and the beautiful Cathedral to admire its architecture and colonial paintings. You will have the rest of the day free to rest or walk around the city. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 9: CUSCO / SACRED VALLEY / CUSCO

Early in the morning we will start our Sacred Valley excursion. Our first stop will be at a textile centre, where we will appreciate the talent of some of the many native communities that inhabit the valley and learn about their ancestral knitting techniques and cultural diversity. Then, we will head for the picturesque town of Pisac, where the colourful art crafts market is a daily attraction. Here, people from the town and nearby villages offer their jewellery, pottery and textile creations. We will have lunch at a local restaurant. That afternoon we will visit the stone village of Ollantaytambo, one of the last Incan towns still inhabited, to tour the narrow stone streets and the massive archaeological complex that guards the village. If time allows it, we will visit a “chichería”, a traditional establishment dedicated to the preparation and sale of “chicha”, an ancestral corn-based drink of the Andes; or maybe an old bakery with the colonial mud ovens still in use. DAY 10: SACRED VALLEY / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO

Today will be an exciting day, as we will visit the legendary Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will cross the valley on board of a comfortable train to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will take get on bus that will take us up the mountain to the gates of Machu Picchu. At the citadel, we will have a fantastic guided visit of about two and a half hours. We will walk around the narrow streets, the buildings, temples, terraces, fountains and more, while learning about this mysterious and magical city on top of the mountain. 

Lunch will be served at the beautiful restaurant.

If time allows it, we will be able to make a second visit to the sanctuary and at scheduled time, we will go back to Aguas Calientes station to take the train back to Cusco. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 11: CUSCO / PUERTO MALDONADO / RESERVA AMAZÓNICA

At scheduled time we will pick you up from the hotel to get to the airport and take the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, we will be met by the lodge staff and taken to the check in office, here we will be able to leave any luggage we won’t be needing for the next few days. We will go to the river port and board the boat that will take us to Reserva Amazónica. At the lodge we will be briefed about the details of our stay and the following excursions. This first day we will be able to have a taste of the jungle walking around one of the trails that surrounds the lodge and maybe have a lovely canoe ride to see the sunset. Lunch, dinner and lodging for the night at Reserva Amazónica.

DAY 12: RESERVA AMAZÓNICA

After breakfast, we could go to Lake Sandoval within the Tambopata National Reserve. This paradise for nature lovers gathers an impressive variety of flora and fauna, and there is no better way to admire it than paddling on a wooden canoe. In the afternoon, the amazing Canopy Inkaterra, an immense network of hanging bridges (about 29 m high) will give us the chance to see the rainforest from a bird’s eye view. Once back in the ground we can have a fantastic hike to watch amphibians, birds, mammals and the most exotic flora from the Amazon. Lunch, dinner and lodging for the night at Reserva Amazónica.

DAY 13: RESERVA AMAZÓNICA

Today we will travel along the Madre de Dios River, with an excursion to Gamitana, home to piranhas, caimans, turtles and a wide range of birds. We will go back through the river and visit the Gamitana farm to learn about farming in the rainforest and the produce of the area. In the afternoon we will make an excursion to Hacienda Concepción, and incredible botanic garden with over 200 rainforest species. Then, we will make an exciting canoe trip of about 30 minutes searching for turtles and exotic birds. After dinner we will make a night walk around the trails of the lodge. For about two hours we will enjoy the sound of the jungle and its inhabitants, and will find species that only appear at night-time. Dinner and lodging for the night at Reserva Amazónica.

DAY 14: RESERVA AMAZÓNICA / PUERTO MALDONADO / LIMA

After a delicious breakfast we will head back to Puerto Maldonado. Once there, we will visit a butterfly breeding centre where we will find many precious endemic species. At scheduled time we will drive you to the airport to take the flight back to Lima and the following connection to your international flight.
