DAY 1: CUSCO / KM. 82. / HUAYLLABAMBA

Early in the morning we will pick you up from the hotel and head for the area called kilometre 82 of the Cusco – Machu Picchu railroad, where we will meet up our porters and gear.

Our trek begins here. We will follow the left bank of the Urubamba River across the Sacred Valley to Llactapata (2,750 m.), an Incan archaeological site that becomes a perfect lookout of the mountains. At this point we will leave Urubamba Valley to follow the course of Kusichaca River until reaching our first campsite at Huayllabamba (3,000 m.)

Up to this point we will have covered about 16 kilometres in 9 or 10 hours. Both lunch and dinner are included today.

DAY 2: HUAYLLABAMBA / PACAYMAYO

After a delicious breakfast we will begin our ascent to the Warmihuañusca Pass (4,200 m.). From the top of the pass we will see the path going down to the Runkurakay ruins. We will stop at the end of a gorge at Pacaymayo (3,600 m.) to camp.

By the end of the day we will have walked about 7 kilometres in approximately 7 hours. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

DAY 3: PACAYMAYO / WIÑAYWAYNA

After breakfast we will leave Pacaymayo along a short, twisting, ascending path to the circular ruins of Runkurakay. After a break, we will start to descend by one of the best preserved Inca trail sections to the steps leading to Sayacmarca archaeological site (3,620 m.)  

From here, the trail advances into the jungle taking us to the Phuyupatamarca ruins. We will walk on ascending and descending paths until arriving to the Inca Tunnel, a natural cavity later developed by the Incas. We will continue crossing a small pass and stone steps to get to this ancient ceremonial centre (3,650 m.)

We will descend enjoying amazing views of the valley and the Urubamba River until we reach the charming Wiñaywayna ruins (3,650 m.), a great complex considered the most important of the trail after Machu Picchu. Here we will set our campsite.

Up to this point we will have walked about 11 kilometres for around 10 hours. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.

DAY 4: WIÑAYWAYNA / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO

Early in the morning we will break camp and head for the most exiting section of the trail. We will move towards the Inti Punku or Sun Gate (2,740 m.), the last mountain pass before the first glimpse of the majestic Machu Picchu citadel (2,450 m.)

The last moments before reaching Machu Picchu are filled with excitement, and the beautiful surroundings only make it better. We will have the rest of the day to visit the citadel and walk around the temples, houses, fountains, streets, terraces, patios, ceremonial sites and more.

Today, our trek would be of about 5 kilometres in 4 hours approximately. Breakfast and lunch are included.

After a fun day at the ruins, we will board the train to Cusco at Aguas Calientes Station, once back in the city, transfer to the hotel.
